A brief glimpse of Shiv Roy’s (Sarah Snook) nightstand in season three ofSuccession revealed a $112 bottle of Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream. Earlier in the series a deep blue bottle of Augustinus Bader’s $437 The Cream stood out in the minimalist bathroom of Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong).
There were no sightings of $8 stick-on jewellery. The move away from heavy television make-up was most notable last year when the Kardashians returned for their new Hulu series sans glam squad with the sisters opting to wear very little make-up in various scenes.
The Augustinus Bader brand, used by Gwyneth Paltrow and now available at Mecca, made an appearance on the Australian Fashion Week runway in May at Melbourne designer Caroline Reznik’s debut. Models received intensive skin treatments with the range byaesthetic physician Dr Joseph Hkeik, long before a make-up brush was lifted.
“We focused on boosting the skin hydration a few days before the event so that it was ready for the runway,” says Hkeik, who counts Rita Ora,Elle Macpherson and Lara Worthington among the visitors to his Sydney clinic All Saints. “Most of these models already have youthful skin with no wrinkles but there are other areas of concern with pigmentation and sun damage. We just wanted the models to be able to wear the skin.”
For the Reznik runway show, only graphic eye make-up was added as a contrast to dewy skin.
“I’ve always said that make-up can only do so much,” says make-up artist Filomena Natoli. “If your skin is healthy and you have good products,it’s just a matter of blending away the problems.”
