How would you describe your style? Refined scruffiness. I love beautiful clothes but I find myself dressing down. My style is getting more casual, especially after having kids[one-year-old Hart and two-month-old Rome].
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? A pair of classic Gucci loafers I’ve had since I was 18. I’ve kept them in the box – they were a special gift from my stepmother.
And the most recent addition?A Christian Kimber chore jacket in Italian suede. I wear my own label almost exclusively, usually a sample or a new piece to see how the fabric goes. We do everything from shoes to jackets,so I’m lucky.
Who’s your favourite designer? Ralph Lauren, especially what he did in the 1980s,that old-America look:a wide chino and oversized Oxford shirt;everything worn in;the Wall Street-inspired pieces. And the ’90s,when it was more branded but bold – I love the colour combinations. My dog’s called Ralph;he’s obviously influenced me.
What would you wear …
… on a first date? A cotton-knit polo shirt with a high-waisted linen trouser,an overshirt and suede loafers.
… on a plane? Loose jeans,long-sleeve tee and a cashmere knit with chukka boots or sneakers. Sweats to change into. I’ll take double of everything if I’m travelling with the babies.
… on the red carpet? It changes. At the moment I love a shawl-collared,double-breasted blazer in a heavy linen or silk,a trouser in the same fabric, with a loafer and a massive bow tie.
What’s your favourite fashion era? I love 1980s Armani – the looser fit, beautiful draping silhouettes, the suits.
What’s your fragrance of choice? Cra-yon “Continental”.
