With Christmas and the summer holidays approaching,Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir warned motorists to take all possible precautions as the state reachesits highest road toll since 2008.
“We have seen terrible carnage in the country this year,152 of the lives lost have been in regional areas and that’s completely unacceptable,” Weir told reporters on Sunday.
He said police were watching road data closely to look for trends but there were few commonalities between the rural crashes. However,he warned that drivers needed to take more care when driving in unfamiliar places.
