The girl was one of five children travelling in a Kia Carnival that was involved in a five-car collision on the highway about 12.50pm. The driver of the Kia, 42-year-old father of nine David Drozd,was trapped and died at the scene.
The five children,including the 11-year-old girl,were taken to hospital,along with a 41-year-old woman. The four other children were in stable conditions and the woman has since been released from hospital.
Police said the crash happened when an eastbound Isuzu ute towing a motorcycle trailer and a westbound Toyota Hilux collided.
The Toyota then struck a Hyundai Tucsan that left the road,trapping the occupants,while the Isuzu struck the Kia Carnival head-on.
A Nissan Patrol – towing a caravan and travelling behind the Isuzu - then struck the motorcycle trailer.
The Isuzu driver,49-year-old Jason McMahon,also died at the scene.
