Roosters captain and fullback Tedesco would also give the move serious consideration.

“Yeah, definitely. Even when we were in LA,there is a professional rugby union team,” Tedesco said. “I didn’t even know that they played rugby union in America. But I’m sure if they’re playing rugby union, they’ll want to play rugby league. So to be able to live in America and play rugby league ... I mean,England’s obviously cool as well. But yeah,it’s nicer weather here.

“It would be cool. Definitely,it would be a very cool experience. It would be interesting. I guess that’s what the hope is,bringing the game here. You never know,it might spark some interest from around America. Who knows,it could be the start of some teams in the future.”

Rabbitohs hooker Cook is open to the prospect of also finishing up in the US,while Penn has earmarked Manly captain Cherry-Evans as the NRL’s version of David Beckham, who ignited interest in Major League Soccer in the US.

“Of course we would,” Cherry-Evans said when asked if his family would seriously consider relocation. “My kids are at a great age now where travel doesn’t scare us as much. I mean,we went on our first overseas holiday as a family since my kids were three and two.

“So more than ever we’re open to a bit of travel. Manly’s always been the priority and Manly always will be the priority. But when opportunities like that rock up:imagine taking your family to New York to play a season or two over there. That’d be pretty special.”

The head of the consortium,Steve Scanlan, has stated the Cherry-Evans would be an ideal target for the proposed league.

“I’d like to think that the opposition wouldn’t be as hard as the NRL,” Cherry-Evans quipped. “Any chance to grow the game I think is a great opportunity. If I was able to play a very small role in the game’s progression in America, then that’s a pretty cool moment, isn’t it?

“For all the things that you’re able to achieve on the field,if you could actually help grow the game and put the NRL in a better space in 10 years time,I think that would be a pretty cool thing to do as well.

“It’s a lot of pie-in-the-sky sort of stuff at the moment, but who knows, mate, never say never.”

Adrian Proszenko’s trip to Las Vegas was funded by the NRL.
