Answerth’s actions appeared to reference teammate Dayne Zorko’s unsavoury sledge to Petty during a match in 2022,which resulted in teammates and coaches consoling the distressed Demon during a three-quarter-time huddle.
After that match,Zorko apologised for the “over-the-top” remark – reportedly about a member of Petty’s family – but later told SEN it “wasn’t an unprovoked sledge”.
On Thursday night,Zorko told ABC radio he would speak to Answerth after the 24-year-old appeared to revive the old sledging incident.
“I’ll probably go have a word to him, that’s obviously not the way we want to win,” Zorko said. “Heat of the moment stuff happens. I’m sure he’d have fixed it up after the game.”
Two years ago,the AFL chose not to punish Zorko for his sledge afterthe Demons acceptedthe then-captain and club apology after the match.
The following week,Zorko appeared on SEN to attempt to express his remorse and admit he got it wrong, but was keen to outline there was back-and-forth sledging between the two teams.
