They also asserted that the evidence of a number of key witnesses in the case should have been ruled inadmissable,or at least that the trial judge should have directed the jury not to consider these accounts as tendency evidence.
It also emerged during the appeal hearing that Hughes had allegedly been attacked in jail,with one inmate reportedly throwing boiling water at the 65-year-old.
But on Monday,the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal rejected all of Hughes'grounds of appeal.
The three-judge appeal panel emphasised that changes to Australian society wrought by the digital revolution,and the consequent explosion in publicity about notable criminal trials,did not diminish the criminal justice system's commitment to trial by jury.
