Police had previously said MacGill was purely a victim when he was allegedly taken from his Cremorne home. But on Tuesday, the 52-year-old was arrested at Chatswood police station and charged with being involved in a massive drug deal linked to his kidnapping.
He has been granted bail and will face Manly Local Court on October 26. A police source, who was not authorised to speak publicly, said the alleged deal involved more than $300,000 worth of cocaine. They will allege there was a debt involved.
Six men were arrested over the alleged kidnapping. One man has pleaded not guilty and the others are expected to fight the charges.
On the podcast,MacGill made light of the experience,in which he is alleged to have been confronted outside his home, forced into a car and driven to a property at Bringelly, about an hour and a half away, where three men are accused of assaulting and threatening him before he was released.
He said he was “slapped around a bit, which was a bit of a bummer”,but he’d been hit a bit in his time. “When you’re a smart arse you tend to get cleaned up a bit.” The podcast aired two days after MacGill had been acquitted of intimidating and screaming obscenities at a female pub owner.
