Opposition Leader Peter Dutton congratulated Albanese on his engagement.
“I just saw the PM in the chamber then and shook his hand and said congratulations,” Dutton told Sydney radio station 2GB.
“Jodie’s a lovely person,so I wish them every happiness and it’s obviously a special relationship that they have got and I wish them every success.”
Fellow ministers including Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong and Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil posted their congratulations.
“Love is a beautiful thing. I’m so happy for you both!” Wong posted to X.
NDIS Minister Bill Shorten told ABC Radio Melbourne it was “fantastic news,couldn’t be happier”.
Chalmers also congratulated Albanese at a press conference before he was due to speak about the unemployment rate.
“These are two people who make each other really happy,and we are really happy for them,” he said.
“So congratulations to Albo and to Jodie on the news of your engagement.”
Labor MP Peter Khalil said:“Congratulations Albo and Jodie. Jodie is a lovely person and you’re both very lucky to have each other. You really outdid us all on Valentine’s Day.”
Health Minister Mark Butler,Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Tim Watts,Infrastructure Minister Catherine King,Local Government Minister Kristy McBain,Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister Patrick Gorman and Speaker of the House Milton Dick were among other colleagues of Albanese to congratulate the couple.
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd also joined the chorus of Labor members,posting his congratulations to X.
“Congratulations! Thérèse and I couldn’t be happier for you. K,” Rudd posted.
The pair also received well-wishes from New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
“Congratulations Anthony,very happy for you and Jodie,” he said.
Albanese is the third member of his cabinet to announce a wedding. Both Wong and Science Minister Ed Husic are getting married this year.
All previous prime ministers,except Sir John McEwen,Julia Gillard and Albanese,were married when they came into office.

In his toast at the state dinner,Albanese joked that he “only had one regret about tonight,which is I’m not quite sure how I top this for date night with Jodie,at any time,anywhere in the future”.
“It’s all downhill from here,my darling,” he said.
The couple first met in late 2019 at a union conference in Melbourne.
Albanese asked the audience if there were any South Sydney Rabbitohs fans in the room and Haydon yelled out “Up the Rabbitohs!”

The pair introduced themselves and after that,met over beers at the Young Henrys brewery in Sydney’s inner west.
“We had what I thought would just be a drink at Young Henrys in Newtown,and we got on really well. That’s how it started,” Albanese told The Australian Women’s Weeklyin 2022.
Haydon and Albanese kept a low profile at the beginning of the relationship,before being thrust into the spotlight when a photograph of them kissing was published in June 2020.
Haydon was born to school teacher parents in Bankstown,Sydney,but grew up on the Central Coast.
Her lengthy career in the superannuation industry has seen her live in Melbourne and Sydney.
