The elderly man’s loved ones knew the flight would be among his last moments in the sky. Davies, however, did not.
The way Davies cared for the man and his wife during the flight brought his crewmates to tears, according to a fellow cabin crew member,Brooke Walters.
Walters told this masthead Davies spent the entire eight-and-a-half hour flight from Sydney to Singapore – including his break – caring for this man and his wife, who were in first class.
“The wife had told him[her husband] had severe dementia, and she was really saddened by it because she kept saying he was the most beautiful husband and kindest man,and she was losing him to this cruel disease,” she said.
“She was getting exhausted because every 30 seconds he was losing his memory, like a goldfish, and Luke took it upon himself to care for them constantly.”
Walters said Davies spent the entire flight by the couple’s side, tucking the man into bed, reassuring him every time he lost his memory, putting a movie on for him and consoling his wife when she got upset.
