“We’ve got the right people in our team, the experts,to give us the information that we need to freshen up.”

Petaia’s absence would likely see Jock Campbell move to fullback and Mac Grealy recalled into the starting side on the wing, while Kiss will have a wealth of options at his disposal to replace Hodgman should his setback be found as a “stinger that couldn’t get right”.

Fiji prop Peni Ravai and former Hurricanes veteran Jeffrey Toomaga-Allen among those choices.

Where he may face a stiffer selection task, however, will rest in whether Paisami is ruled out.

Fellow inside centre James O’Connor is still likely at least a week away from returning from a hamstring injury, particularly given he has not played any football this year.

Isaac Henry donned the No.12 jumper in Queensland’s development side on the weekend;however,five-eighth Lawson Creighton has filled in there before at Super Rugby level.

Seven-game rookie Taj Annan could also be an option, given his 100-kilogram frame would make him a more like-for-like replacement for the powerhouse Paisami.

While Kiss praised the bravery of his group to fight to the death against the fancied Hurricanes,it was the second week in a row he was forced to lament a series of costly turnovers.

After Queensland’s opening round win over the Waratahs he stressed they could ill-afford to match the 14 turnovers they did. Against the Kiwi juggernaut, they would concede 16.

But the first year mentor said he would not be out to rewrite the ship against a Chiefs side fresh off a dominant 46-12 triumph over the Brumbies.

“We’re not going to do too much this week I don’t think … it will be a simple game plan against the Chiefs,we’ve got a short turnaround,so we’re not going to reinvent the wheel,” Kiss said.

“If we come out with the fight and heart we did this week, our forwards get rolling again, and we’re a little bit more accurate with our kicking and a little bit of loose play that we had we can be in the hunt again.”
