Paramedics and police found a Volkswagen Tiguan had crashed into a tree. Two teenagers were dead at the scene and have yet to be formally identified.

Three teenagers were taken to hospital;one was in a serious condition and two are being treated for minor injuries.

A crime scene has been established and specialist officers from the crash investigation unit are attending to examine the scene.

“An investigation is under way into the circumstances surrounding the crash,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Plains Station Road remains closed in both directions with local traffic diversions in place.

The crash takes the NSW road death toll to 305 lives lost this year – considerably more than the 236 recorded at the same time last year.

It is also the second crash in just a week to claim the lives of two teenagers.

Two boys, aged 13 and 14,were killed in Ashcroft,in Sydney’s south-west,on Monday morning when a Ford Falcon struck a pole at speed and split in two on a quiet suburban street.

The alleged driver,Nicholas Thew, has been charged and remains in custody held on remand over that crash.

A shrine of flowers and photographs of the boys killed in Ashcroft has grown on the roadside as the tight-knit community grieves.
