Charing Cross may not be the gastro-hub of the universe, but Bronte Road Bistro goes a long way to making up for the area's gastronomic shortcomings. It's a polished sort of a place run by husband and wife team Stewart and Jessica Parsons, whose dedication is palpable, although service may dissipate when things get busy. The conservatory and outside tables are perfect possies for a sun-soaked,wine-drenched snacky lunch (think quality charcuterie such as wagyu bresaola, jamon de Trevelez,Iggy's bread and spiced roasted almonds). More substantial options from the modern,Med-esque menu include a generous fillet of barramundi on creamy cauliflower puree, with stubby pieces of asparagus, bacon bits, toasted almonds and almond butter;and a fork-tender pan-roasted spatchcock, presented in pieces over a silky artichoke puree with plenty of parsley and olive-laden juices. To finish, dark chocolate tart with rum and raisin ice-cream and a glass of Pedro Ximenez tastes as good as it sounds.
