Rishi Sunak,43,has spoken before about fasting, which is an integral part of his Hindu religion. But the true extent of his abstemiousness has emerged courtesy ofThe Sunday Times.
Friends of the prime minister told the newspaper he does not eat from 5pm on a Sunday until 5am on Tuesday. “He is incredibly disciplined,” the paper quoted one as saying.
Confirming his regime to the BBC,Sunak said:“I tend to try and do some fasting at the beginning of every week as part of a general balanced lifestyle, but everyone will do this differently.
“It means that I can then indulge myself in all the sugary treats I like for the rest of the week,” he said.
The pint-sized PM,who stands 170 centimetres – five foot, six inches on the old scale – is also a famous teetotaller and vegetarian and also participates in regular Peloton classes. He has placed on the record that he favours one session that is done to Britney Spears’ hits.
The intermittent fasting technique is said to help people lose weight by reducing their calorie intake and inducing ketosis,a metabolic state in the body that promotes fat loss.
