How do you like your cucumbers? If you answered “smacked”,you win all the garlicky,sesame-flecked,chilli-drenched prizes. The lightly crushed cukes are just one of the flavour-packed add-ons at Ommi Don,and it pays to make your meal into a combo when you can add a side for a hefty discount.
You’ll struggle to break the bank at Ommi regardless, with chef Omar Hsu’s signature Taiwanese lu rou fan of unctuous soy-braised pork belly over rice, creamy golden kimchi and a winter-melon iced tea coming in at an exceptionally reasonable $20.
Three-cup chicken shouldn’t be missed either, the rice wine, soy sauce and sesame oil glazing crunchy bites paired with mushrooms and a jammy marinated egg. It’s value top to bottom, and if the understated surrounds make Ommi Don a bit of a hidden gem,so much the better.′
