Edmonds&Greer used to be a chichi gift shop, now it's also a busy and agreeable cafe. Tables sit outside on a quiet,tree-lined street as well as in the main dining area and there's a communal table in a pleasant nook off to one side.
That's where we sit, beneath a low-slung chandelier and surrounded by a cornucopia of artfully placed throws,vases,coffee-table books and knick-knacks,all for sale.
The staff are welcoming and have the service well under control on a bustling Saturday morning. We order oranges with cherries, dates, pomegranate, sweet orange syrup and yoghurt ($9.50);roasted portobello mushrooms on toast with brie and rocket ($12.50);and a toasted panini with avocado, bacon, rocket and goat's cheese ($13.50). It's all tasty,well-presented and arrives in good time, though the more gourmet ingredients, such as the brie and the goat's cheese, have been rather frugally applied.
We are nonetheless full by meal's end and a bit sad about it because the lunch menu looks tempting and so does the cakes cabinet.
