South-east Queensland plan being debated

Containing urban sprawl and protecting the natural environment of south-east Queensland will be the primary focus of a two-day urban planning conference on the Gold Coast,starting on Monday.

Living Smarter:The future for South East Queensland,will decide on how the South East Queensland Regional Plan will be implemented in the next two decades.

"Through smart planning and urban design we can ensure we contain urban sprawl and protect our natural environments,open spaces and rural industries for the future,"deputy premier Anna Bligh said.

Gordon Price from Canada and Robert Cervero from the US will head the list of keynote speakers,and will provide an international perspective on best practice in urban planning.
